Along the similar development as Spike helmets internationally during the late 19th century, pith or cork helmets became common for forces serving overseas. And during this period it seems, that this took place more often than not in tropical environments. Though the US involvment internationally during this period was minimal, the US army never the less has it's own pattern of "Foreign Service" helmet. The almost universal code of the spike signifying infantry was carried on over to the white helmet. This one is in fantastic condition, and has been taken very good care of over the years. There are only a few fabric nips around the sweatband, otherwise it is a choise example.
